My entire life I have been interested in my family history. Presented with the opportunity to explore a topic of my choice for this project, I decided that this would be the perfect time to explore my interest in my family's history in Atlanta, Georgia. My family has lived in Atlanta for over 200 years and in that time they have accomplished and contributed a lot. For this specific project I decided to focus on three of those accomplishments: the Howell Lumber Mills, the creation of the newspaper, the Atlanta Constitution, and the Howell family's involvement with Georgia politics. My final focus will not be on the accolades of the Howell family but rather the lasting impact they have made on Atlanta. My exhibit will also highlight the lives and accomplishments of two men in my family: Evan Park Howell and Clark Howell. Through this exhibit I want to show how my family has grown and changed along with the city of Atlanta, and how they have, in turn, also affected the development of the city.
