Mission Statement
This project aims to spread awareness and educate people about what was happening in the USSR during Stalin's great terror using my family's experiences during those times. Most American sources only cover this period as a paragraph in history textbooks that off-handedly mention that Stalin was a horrible dictator and move on, while there is a lot more to it. The mission is to make people interested enough to learn more about the events of the great terror by showing people what my great-grandparents experienced when fighting for independence and how swiftly the government could get rid of any evidence of resistance. Stalin's purge was so terrifying that the Soviet Union practiced them 48 years after his death, even though nobody believed them in the first place. I hope that this project will show that Stalin's purge was not just a statistic of twenty million deaths but a personal experience for countless people, including my family.
