The map and key above demonstrate how the geographical proximity of my father and I's childhood home and schools to significant government buildings affected our involvement in the two major pro-democracy movements in Beijing and Hong Kong, respectively. Though the scale of both protests is not comparable, I found parallelism in them. Both events originated as student-led movements demanding true democracy, demonstrations occurred, and both ended with CCP's military forces. History repeats itself. Will another pro-democracy movement happen in the near future?
