The First Time

Making History

For the very first time in all of Episcopal's history, three African American students have been elected to be in the highest student-led roles offered at EHS. These three roles have not only marked notable changes for the high school but have also opened the opportunity for more student-led roles to be diverse and inclusive.

But there's more, the highest student-led role Head Monitor has been graciously blessed to have Sydney Hopkins 23' as the first African American female taking on the position. Sydney has done a phenomenal job as the Head Monitor, and has set Episcopal's future to be nothing short of amazing for all who attend The High School!

Increase of Black Students over the years

Over the course of six years, there has been an increase in African American students accepted and enrolled at EHS. In 2018, there was a total of 45 students of African descent attending Episcopal that year. As for the 22-23 academic school year, there are currently 67 students of African descent. The current number of 67 has been the highest recorded number of African American students at Episcopal since its first time integrating in 1968.

Below is a bar graph representing the amount of African American Students at EHS, from school years 17-18, 19-20, 20-21, and 22-23.

Although there was a significant increase, there's still room for improvement by the administration, and hopefully, they will allow for more black and brown students to be a part of this amazing community moving forward.
