Community Reactions

Thankfully, the Episcopal Archives do a great job of storing and cataloging old articles, because now we are able to look back and see exactly what people thought about coeducation. The majority reaction to the school transitioning to coed was positive, but there were a few that opposed it. Some alumni sounded like they were willing to deal with coeducation, although they may not necessarily support it. Others disagree with coeducation in the name of tradition, something Mr. Castle touched on in his interview. Many students were also excited to finally have girls on campus. The school was moving in the right direction and is not letting notions of "the old days" sink them down.

Thus, in general, the male perspective on the First 48 was that of positivity, as many students, alumni, and faculty were excited to finally have girls on campus. Even those who were averse to the school's decision in the name of tradition understood that this change was necessary for the good of the school.

"There were some who certainly weren't in favor of it, but there were plenty who were super excited about it" - Mr. Castle
