Timeline of the Progression of Coeducation at EHS
Although the school announced its decision to go coed in January 1990, the process started 5 years prior. In 1985, the Board of Trustees created The Committee to Study Coeducation. Later, in 1987, the committee expanded and was renamed the "Committee to Study Long Range Student Resources." As the years went on, the committee began to lean in favor of coeducation, but still needed more research. During the April of 1989, faculty subcommittees were created in order to study specific logistical issues such as facilities, finances, programming, etc. Later that year, in November, the Committee's decision to recommend coeducation was made public. Finally, on January 27, 1990, the Board voted to implement coeducation at Episcopal. The following school year, on September 9, 1991, the First 48 arrived on campus.
